National Chi Nan University (NCNU) has established a comprehensive waste management system in compliance with the Waste Disposal Act and the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) regulations. Campus waste is categorized into general industrial waste and hazardous industrial waste.
1. General Industrial Waste
This category includes household garbage, recyclable waste, kitchen waste, and sewage sludge.
-
General waste is collected through on-campus waste collection facilities.
-
Recyclable materials are sorted and temporarily stored for recycling.
-
Kitchen waste is collected and processed by campus cleaning staff.
-
Dewatered sludge from the wastewater treatment plant is stored in designated areas and transported by licensed contractors for proper treatment or landfill.
2. Hazardous Industrial Waste
This includes chemical waste liquids, discarded laboratory materials, and used batteries.
-
Laboratory hazardous waste is temporarily stored in designated hazardous waste storage cabinets.
-
It is regularly transported by licensed contractors to qualified institutions such as the National Cheng Kung University Environmental Resources Research Center for final treatment.
The Environmental Safety and Health Center oversees waste management, ensuring all labeling, classification, storage, and disposal procedures comply with environmental regulations, promoting safe and responsible hazardous waste management on campus.
